Brogan Holcombe

I am a Masters student studying black bears in the Appalachian Mountains. My research focuses on Feeding Ecology, Behavioral Ecology, and Hibernation Behavior Ecology.

I work with data collected by video-GPS collars (‘critter cams’) on black bears in Bath County, VA. Go to #bearseyeview for examples of the imagery.

From this video data and GPS data, I hope to better understand bear habitat use behaviors and diet, and general activity, all of which are poorly understood.

I am also analyzing video data of captive female black bears to better understand the hibernation process and how it influences behavior.
