I study the spatial ecology of Feral Hog populations across sites in South Florida that represent a range of Florida Panther densities within various habitat configurations.
I want to understand the effects of restoration of Florida Panthers on Feral Hogs, which are both valued and reviled by society. I am investigating Feral Hog space use, survival, and causes of mortality across a landscape mosaic (e.g. agricultural land, pasture land, swampy flatwoods, and hammocks).
I am interested in the effects of landscape composition and configuration, Florida Panther predation risk, and disturbance (fire and hydrology) on Feral Hog resource selection, movement, and home range size. I will also determine survival of and causes of Feral Hog mortality to determine why Feral Hogs appear to be declining across the area.
