Using Scat Dogs & Remote Cameras in Belize to Understand Wild Felid Ecology,  2007--2012

Capitalizing on our two scat dogs Billy's and Bruiser's keen sense of smell, we collected over 1,000 scat samples from wild felids in Belize, Central America. We conservatively estimate that humans searching without scat dogs would have discovered no more than about 200 samples. We determined cat densities as well as genetic health and connectivity across seven reserves and additional unprotected areas across the country.
